My first design class with Giles went extremely well. I surprisingly enjoyed the class. I had expected not to like design as it isn’t my strength and I feel that I am better in fashion media and design. I also did not particularly have a good mindset before entering the class. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun I had during this session. I used my museum research and traced over it using tracing paper and flipped the tracing paper to create a mirrored design. This process was new to me and it was so fun. I was satisfied with my final design.
Then we were challenged to make the design into many different types of clothing. This was hard to do and it required me to think out of the box. I managed to get this task done and came up with many garment ideas based off of one design. In this session I finally learned how to draw a proportionate model. I realised that I was making the arms of the model too long and the head too large. I learned that it’s important to make sure that the model looks proportionate or else the drawing will look weird. The final lesson I learned was not to assume something before you experience it. I thought I wasn’t going to like this class but I ended up loving every part of it.
