Although I am not a makeup artist, I do enjoy creating makeup looks and enjoy the creative process. Regardless, to me makeup was always like getting an idea and putting it straight on the face. This session made me approach creating makeup looks in a different way. We had to think about makeup in relation to our previous styling session and then use art materials to put it on paper. I never drew a makeup look on paper before so it was quite new to me. I enjoyed the creative process and experimenting with paint, marker, tissue paper, and oil pastels. I felt that by putting down my thoughts and ideas on paper I was able to put the makeup on easily without room for mistakes. Because when I have an idea in my head I usually make mistakes but it was helpful to see the drawing in front of me whilst putting the makeup on the face. After doing makeup this way, I found it really helpful in the application process to have a reference picture. During this session I also was a model for my classmate Nasser who applied makeup on me. It was a look that I would never personally wear but it was fun to see how I would look with bleached brows and glossy blue eyeshadow. Although I don’t plan on progressing onto a makeup course next year, this session was helpful because if I ever need to do makeup for any shoots I’ll have an efficient way to produce a look.
