In this session, I was paired with Bel to experiment with creating a shoot with different kinds of props. At first I wasn’t sure what vibe we were going for, we just grabbed a bunch of props and decided to take pictures with it. I really enjoyed the experimentation that Bel and I did, not only did we use different props, but we made sure to change up the location and the positions. Because of that we got a lot of content out of it. I didn’t realise how much props could either make or break a fashion shoot until this session. It was because some props don’t match certain vibes or aesthetics and some props even take away the attention from the clothing. Its really important to make sure that the prop elevates the look but doesn’t outshine it or stand out too much. I also learned that props could be apart of the stylists job, sometimes they need to take care of the prop to make sure it doesn’t outshine the outfits of the shoot. After learning all of this during the session, I made sure to apply all of my prop-knowledge to my SDS. For my SDS shoot I was very particular with what props to use to make sure it matched the vibe of everything. I wanted the prop to elevate the look and to help tell a story and to elevate the atmosphere of the shoot.
